UTON & ANTONY MILTON LP (RTB#35) REVIEWS
ROCK-A-ROLLA #15 This Finland/New Zealand collaboration between experimental folk/scape artists Uton and Antony Milton is a series of stationary travel journals. A trip over epic distances without crossing the front door's threshold, this is a gentle suite that tries to visit the lands in-between the artist's homeland. The airily sunny stretches prevail over the easier to create glacial stretches, the duo's daylight cloudcover making this record a peculiarly familiar path to follow. The echoes of plaintive mood are spare, the record having a kind of simple wide-eyed wonder in itself - continued or not it's definitely there. Having taken more than two years to perfect, the accidental layered feel is all the more impressive. This record might be following a very well-worn path, but the care taken here elevates it beyond the traditional or the naive. - Scott McKeating |
