HEAVY WINGED - SPREADING CENTER CD (RTB#36)
Two new long tracks from Heavy Winged, following up releases on Three Lobed, Archive, Not Not Fun etc. Massive and big-sounding stuff, but with more subtle and quiet openings and endings, and without ever loosing the abrasive feeling of being dragged in grit and dirt forever and ever. Driving and powerful proto-psych-metal that manages to sound very much improvised and extremely focused and precise at the same time. Both tracks recorded live, Loudun recorded in Davis, California on 6/30/08. Strigoi recorded in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York on 11/2/07. Limited one-time pressing of 500 copies. Dual Plover gatefold sleeve with black felt and artwork by Twin Vixen. Play it loud.

HEAVY WINGED BIOGRAPY

Heavy Winged began in the fall of 2004 in Brooklyn, New York. The three members (Jed Bindeman, Ryan Hebert and Brady Sansone) had all gone to college together and afterwards found themselves living in the same neighborhood in Brooklyn. Ryan and Jed had previously played together in the band Ivo Shandor, and the idea to jam with brady had been discussed for awhile before it actually happened. originally they tried to compose songs, but quickly realized that the sprawling improvised sessions they were having sounded much better than the compositions they were working on. The band made sure to record every jam session in full, direct to Ryan's half-broken 4 track cassette recorder. The band performed live only one time before Jed announced that he was moving across the country to Portland, Oregon in the summer of 2006. At this time the band was no longer able to record as fervently as before, but the archival releases continued to trickle out, with label and press interest only growing with time. Ryan decided to move back home to Windsor, Vermont in 2007, splitting the band between three states. Despite this, Heavy Winged comes together twice a year to embark on short tours and record new material along the way.

The members of Heavy Winged all play in other bands, as well. In Portland, Jed plays in Eternal Tapestry (along with his brother Nick, of Jackie O Motherfucker and Tunnels) and Bloodbiker. In Brooklyn, Brady plays in Lonely Ghost, Magdyn Osh and Parlor Wit. In Windsor, Ryan plays in Lilum and The Jobz.

There have been CD and/or LP releases on labels such as Three Lobed, Not Not Fun, Archive, Trensmat and many others, all of which are sold out. A brand new collaborative album with legendary shoegaze/drone group Windy & Carl was just released on the Music Fellowship label, as a picture disc lp with cd.

Releases planned for 2009 on Aurora Borealis, RTB, Archive and a full collaborative lp with Inca Ore for Not Not Fun.

Live shows with No Neck Blues Band, Tarentel, Grouper, Ilyas Ahmed, Religious Knives, Inca Ore, The Austerity Program, U.S. Girls, Starving Weirdos, Robedoor, Magic Lantern and many others.

"...a vast blank wall of a monolithic windowless tower block, seemingly featureless from a distance, but so rough up close that it tears skin from flesh and flesh from bone." - The Wire (We Grow LP, NNF)

"If you can imagine Les Rallizes Denudes and White Heaven crossed with Circle and Can, but mixed by Wolf Eyes and Merzbow, you wouldn't even be close." - Aquarius Records (Feel Inside CD, Archive)
